Going Dairy Free.

Quick disclaimer for this post, all information has come from my own research and advice from my doctor. There are photos on this post that show my skin when my acne was pretty bad so if that's something that could be uncomfortable then maybe this post isn't for you.

In around May 2017 I had decided that enough was enough when it came to my skin, I was sick of not being able to wear t-shirts or anything that showed off my shoulders/back, covering myself up all the time especially on warmer days wasn't ideal and my confidence was at a low. I had done some of my own research and found a lot of videos and articles that linked acne to dairy products, there was so many youtube videos which showed how much people's skin cleared up after they cut dairy out of their diet. I sat on it for a few days and continued to do research until I decided to just go for it, I ordered a big food shop to the house with nothing that contained dairy, I've found new butters and milks that I love so much.
3rd May 2017 - 19th May 2017

After only 2 weeks with no dairy in my diet I could already see a massive difference in the appearance to my skin, this was only really for my shoulders, chest and face as my back was still pretty bad at this point. As you can see the overall redness is completely gone here.

After around a straight month of not having anything dairy in my diet I started to slip up a bit, whether it was a chocolate bar here or cheese in meals there it was like I was starting to slowly introduce it back into my diet, I still to this day have not bought cows milk or butter for the house as I completely went off them anyway but I was disappointed that I had started to eat more things that weren't good for my skin. Over the Christmas and New year period I had so much chocolate, one a day at least! (thanks to chocolate calendars) and just after New year I became really unwell, I had to leave work at the start of a shift and my stomach just wasn't in a good place (without giving away to much info).

I phoned my doctor to ask for some advice on what could be happening and I had explained that my diet mainly over the last 7 months has been for the most part dairy free and asked if it could be all the things I had been eating over the Christmas period and he agreed that it could well be the reason. So what I'm thinking is that I was maybe already a little intolerant to it in the first place (hence the acne) and then after not having it for so long I've maybe built up a stronger intolerance, which obviously isn't ideal but at least knowing what the cause of all this is means that I can stick to being dairy free more easily this time.

My back has always been the worst area of my body for my acne, it used to be really bad on my face back when I was in high school but luckily that's not so much the problem anymore. The next photo you'll see is my back after 6ish months. I am so so happy with the results of my skin and how much better it is now compared to then and its crazy for me to look at all the before photos and think that that's what my skin used to look like. I'm really excited to see how much better it can be even in the next few months especially as now I really do need to stay away from dairy so there will be no slip ups! The only thing that has been a struggle is finding a decent milk free cheese but there's hundreds to choose from so I'm sure I'll find the one for me.

Taking photos of my own back isn't easy so maybe in the next few months there will be another update on my skin and I'll get someone else to take the photos for me. Thanks so much for reading! Have a lovely week x

The Week off

Last week while I was working I was thinking that I definitely had a holiday coming soon but I had completely forgotten about it, so you can imagine my surprise when I was told that my holiday was actually this week! A look back on October

Sophia has been put to bed, the housework has been partially done and I've had a long day so it's finally time for me to sit down and talk to myself on here!

Another month crossed off of 2017, October was a good one! A wee holiday from work, lots of time with Sophia and HALLOWEEN! I wish I had lots of stories for each week of the month but life hasn't been that exciting really, I think the main reason I've enjoyed it so much is probably just because it has been nice and quiet and it is nice sometimes to just not have anything big going on. I'm loving the darker nights, warmer clothes and all the hot drinks I can have whenever I like.
